☆ Personality.

Disturbed.

  • Theta suffers from a whole mess of issues, depression being one of the worst. Their young life has been spent abused and a constant witness to tragedy. Every bit of happiness has always seemingly been snatched out of their grasp and now they rarely, if ever, look up or look forward to anything. At night they are plagued with nightmares which is one of the reasons why they're always staying up late into the night working until the early hours of the morning. Keeping themselves empty and void of feeling also helps push aside dangerous thoughts.

Sensitive.

  • Not regarding emotion but regarding touch and sound. Theta does not like being touched and is incredibly sensitive to loud noise. With touching, they won't necessarily get angry but will nip at you or shove you away if you don't read their signals and move away a few spaces. It takes a lot of trust to get close to them. There aren't very many individuals that they chose to trust. Just be courteous and give them their space. If you are also a loud speaker by nature, there is a high chance that Theta will probably choose to avoid you. Not only is it because they are slowly going deaf in one ear, but also because they are simply sensitive to loud sounds. Being exposed to it for too long will result in extreme migraines.

Fearless.

  • Theta's had some very rough younger years and due to the way they were treated, there is really nothing that could compare. There is very little that they truly fear and their fearlessness definitely shows clear in their actions. But don't mistake this for recklessness. Theta is far more clever than they give themselves credit for. But it's very difficult to try and intimidate them, since they aren't too easily phased.

Quiet.

  • Very much so. Theta rarely talks, that is, if they chose to at all. They have no real need for conversation, apart from the main reason and also because socializing just isn't their strong suit. So they usually save their voice for when it's truly needed. They've found that you can communicate perfectly fine with just nods and shakes of your head, so that's what they do. But they also move quietly. You'll struggle to hear them coming and they often have a tendency to suddenly appear somewhere without anyone noticing them approaching.

Committed.

  • Basically, they're a workaholic, to put in simple terms. Once they're working on something, it's very difficult to convince them to take a break. The nightly hours have never been good nor comforting for them so they don't mind loosing sleep, just as long as their being productive. They feel safer sleeping during the day, since the nightmares are much worse at night.

Stoic.

  • Theta wears almost no expression on their face and this makes it incredibly difficult to figure out exactly what they're thinking or how they're feeling. They don't get out much or really speak so they don't prioritize socializing, which closes off any chance of them learning how to. Sometimes this rubs others the wrong way into thinking that they're cold, but that isn't the case. They just simply don't know how to express themselves. But this also means that if you ever see them visibly upset, something must have really shaken them up.

Curious.

  • Although they often wen't out into the city with Hina, Theta always preferred being indoors, not being too fond of the loud and busy bustling world right outside the door. But that never did douse their child-like curiosity of the knowledge that their previous life had deprived them of. Unfortunately though, it did make Theta a bit naive. They tend to avoid outsiders, when they can, as much as they can because of this. Theta isn't oblivious to their nativity. They're still fairly young and the world is still a new experience full of new adventures as much as dangers.

☆ History.

Childhood [0-11 years].

Theta's story begins with the meeting of their parents; a quiet but charming miner by the name of Omega, and an out-spoken but vain priestess by the name of Vidia. Now, Omega came from a typically normal Breim family. His older relatives were of the Old Generation, but he, his siblings and his cousins leaned a bit more towards the New. Vidia on the other hand came from a strict Old Generation family, and change was frowned upon. How the two of them came together is a mystery, but one thing is for sure, neither of them got their happy ending.

Omega met and got to know Vidia through worship and frequent temple visits. She was a priestess of Argus, and if she wasn't already beautiful enough, she had a shimmering horn a-top her head that mimicked the color of the gems that littered Breim's caves. It took Vidia months to notice that this shy stallion was trying to gain her attention, but when she finally did she didn't really pay him all that much. But when her life would begin to fall apart, she would be driven straight into his arms.

Jealousy, pride and the desecration of the sacred temple were the crimes that forced Vidia out of her rank as a priestess. Although knowing very well what she did, she thought it as unfair and was more than furious. It was during this time that she left her family and trailed after Omega like a lost puppy. She pleaded with him to let her have a place to stay, knowing very well that he had strong feelings for her, and Omega, who was hopeless in love, didn't hesitate a moment into accepting her into his home. For roughly a year they lived together. Vidia kept up an act of affection in order to keep a safe foothold in his life in order to preserve her own. Omega had proposed marriage many times only to have been shot down, Vidia's reasons often changing as to why she refused him every time. But eventually he got the point and decided one day never to ask her again. It wasn't until the next year that Theta was conceived, and it was in that same year that Omega disappeared.

It was in the dead of winter when Theta was born. Vidia was furious when she realized that she had been abandoned, but she refused to believe that she had any fault. She didn't care for that petty miner anyway, or so that was what she told herself. It was the cool stillness of the winter morning, that was the first thing to greet Theta. The birth hadn't been easy and Vidia endured on her own, refusing to accept help from friends or family. But the pale child she had given life to was far from what she had been expecting, and much to her displeasure it was a common horse, just like it's father. But in her moment of weakness Vidia chose a name that resembled Omega, and named their daughter Theta. In these precious days after Theta's birth may have been the only time that perhaps Vidia actually truly cared for them, because in the years to follow there was not a moment that that truth existed. It was in the darkness of these caves that Theta would suffer. In Vidia's eyes her pale child reminded her too much of Omega, and with every look at her daughter's face, guilt gnawed at her gut. A twisted relationship would later form.

Theta spent most of their childhood cooped up at home. Vidia made sure the 'little brat' wasn't allowed outside. She couldn't afford letting her little abomination be seen, specially since she believed that if Omega's family could recognize her, that they would steal her away, and that was something Vidia would never allow.

The abuse didn't begin until they were roughly about five years old.

It was the age where they began to grow curious and ask questions. But Vidia was quick to 'discipline' her ungrateful child. Whenever Theta would question or request for playtime outside or even asked about their father they were instantly answered with a whack across the face while Vidia would scream about how ungrateful and greedy they were. After all that she had done raising the little brat when she could have easily snapped her neck and ended it that day when she was born. Unfortunately the situation only grew worse before it got better. This possessive and abusive treatment went on for years, and sadly little Theta had quite a lot of spirit in them. The punishments would grow steadily worse.

There were many days and weeks spent in total darkness. It was during these times that Theta's silence evolved. Vidia would lock them away, specially when she had visitors, in order to avoid having to explain the scars on her daughter's body, or her odd behavior. Sometimes little Theta was forgotten about and would nearly end up starving. But her mother would always be there whenever she was just about to give up. She would then coddle and spoil her, telling her that if she behaved well she would finally be deserving of her love and acceptance. But those were just to keep little Theta's hopes alive, and it simply made the poor thing confused and made her suffering worse.

At around eleven years old, Theta's life finally appeared to be changing for the better. A stallion that her mother had invited over had caught a glimpse of her and grew curious as to who she was. Although Theta simply stared down at her feet, her scars spoke loud enough for her. The stallion confronted Vidia, demanding why and who this pale filly was. When she confirmed that Theta was indeed her daughter, the stallion easily assumed where the scars on her body were from. Infuriated at his fellow herd-mates actions, Vidia was immediately reported for her crimes and was later sentenced to be executed. It was kept from Theta's knowledge, and several days later she was adopted out to a mare who had quickly volunteered to take her in.

The mare who took her in was Hina. She was a rather easy-going and joyful individual with high-spirits, and from Theta's viewpoint, she never seemed to stop smiling. Unlike Vidia, Hina was a proud member of the 'new generation' in Breim, a maker. She lived alone in a rather splendid house, and by the looks of it's interior, she loved to paint and had an eye for beautiful things, and that included Theta. After spending weeks together, Theta found the reason as to why Hina had been so eager to take her in. Hina couldn't have foals of her own, but instead of letting that dim her spirits, she kept her hopes up to adopt, and she proudly admitted that she had insisted she be the first to take Theta in.

It took months for Theta to get use to her new 'mother'. Hina was the complete opposite of Vidia. The comparison between them was impossible to measure. Hina loved Theta like her own daughter and made sure that she knew that. She told stories, and even though she didn't sing all that well she still hummed lullabies and often hummed when she worked. Theta never felt left out, and Hina went out of her way to make sure that she was comfortable. For once in her life Theta felt loved and included, and she wished it would never end.

Adolescent [11-17 years].

Theta's entire world shattered on the eve of their sixteenth year. Hina had gone out to do some shopping and was late upon her return, to which Theta wondered. Three knocks on their front door, and that very sound would haunt them forever. They quickly trotted up to the door, eager to see her smiling face, but instead their eyes fell upon that of a stranger wearing a grim expression. I'm sorry to inform you my dear... but there's been an accident involving your mother. Their heart skipped a beat at the news. It couldn't be... t-there had to have been some sort of mistake! Consumed by worry Theta followed the elder to where their mother was, and they crumbled at the sight. A sharp gasp escaped their lungs before they rushed toward her, pushing past the horses who had come to take hold of the situation. Several of them tried to cover the young teen's eyes from the gore but Theta had already seen far too much and the sight had shaken them to their core. Child, please come along with me. She's still alive and I promise you will get the chance to see her again soon. Let them take care of her now. Weak and shaken, there was no protest from Theta as they were gently guided away back to their home.

Three days later Theta was indeed able to see her mother again. Upon their entry Hina greeted them with a sweet smile, similar to the one she always wore... but this time it was different. Never before had age ever seemed to touch her beautiful face, but now it seemed that the years had caught up with her in the short matter of days that it had been since the accident. Her eyes, usually so bright and lively were dull and empty, and beneath them were the dark rings of exhaustion. That sweet smile was forced, and she did so for Theta's sake. But they could see right through it. They spent the next night in that hospital beside their mother and Hina explained what had happened and that she would never be able to use her hind legs again. Theta was distraught but Hina reassured them that everything would be alright. They were part of the New Generation, there were prosthetics and braces and with a little therapy she was confident that their lives would go back to normal. She could continue with her work and everything would be like it was before.

But their lives never went back to normal, things would never again be like they were before. Hina did get braces for her hind legs and Theta helped her with her physical therapy. But as weeks turned into months Theta knew that her dear mother was slowly withering away. Hina always put up a happy act just so Theta wouldn't suffer, but having to fake that smile and confidence would take it's toll. A year later when Theta returned home from a quick outing to purchase supplies they found Hina laying flat on her side in the center of their workshop. Horrified Theta rushed over and tried to wake her only to find what remained of the substance that they assumed she had taken in order to end her life. They sat there in still silence for hours in front of her body, no tears in their eyes. There was some part of them that always knew that one day this would happen, but nothing could have possibly prepared them for when that day actually arrived. With the help of a close family friend they held a funeral for her. Many friends and loyal customers, fans of her work attended and grieved together at her loss. Theta was the only one who hadn't attended. They were at home releasing their pent up emotions. Glasses and vases were broken, pictures and paintings torn and furniture ripped. Theta attempted to follow after Hina that night but had no luck finding more of that substance. Their second option was to drown themselves but when the time came they couldn't hold their head under for long enough. The body's fierce desire to keep itself alive is too strong, and Theta was far too weak to overcome it.

Adult [18 years - Present Day].

Three years have passed since then and Theta has managed over that time the best that they could. Popular former customers of their mother had requested that they continue her work. They had nothing else to do so they accepted and went forth to study and train as a Maker specializing in the craft of jewel crafting and jewelry making.
